Some works of art reveal themselves immediately. Others invite us to stay — to discover something new in what may seem familiar. COME CLOSER: THREE WAYS OF SEEING brings together Mozart, Caroline Shaw, and Brahms across nearly 250 years of music, each looking at the intimate world of the piano quartet through remarkably different eyes.
Hear Mozart’s operatic humor and effervescent joy; Caroline Shaw’s Thousandth Orange, a contemporary musical still life that finds something extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary; and Brahms’ formidable Piano Quartet in C Minor, turbulent, passionate, and deeply human. Like standing before a painting in a gallery, this concert asks for something increasingly rare: our attention. Come closer to the musicians. Sit with something beautiful. Listen again — and discover what you didn’t hear the first time.
