Rike’s Holiday Windows

Due to COVID-19 advisories and for the safety of our patrons and staff, the Rike’s Holiday Windows were not on display in 2020.

We know the Rike’s Holiday Windows are a holiday tradition, so we’ve created exclusive Rike’s Holiday Windows video content right here!

Rike’s Virtual Holiday Windows

The Rike’s Holiday Windows’ animated elves and animals first appeared in NCR’s New York office windows in 1943, but many Daytonians remember them from their annual holiday pilgrimage to the Rike’s Department Store which sat on the corner of Second and Main Streets (where the Schuster Center now sits). Today, almost every year from the day after Thanksgiving until the turn of the new year, you can visit them in the Schuster Center Wintergarden. But, due to COVID-19 advisories and for the safety of our patrons and staff, the Rike’s Holiday Windows will not be on display in 2020. Hopefully, this video of the Rike’s Holiday Window displays from last year’s reveal event will see you through until next year!

Rike’s Holiday Windows Assemble!

The Rike’s Holiday Windows have been on display at the Schuster Center during the holidays for almost 20 years! The setup, teardown, and visits by more than 8,000 people every year take their toll. In 2018, the displays were redesigned by Adam Koch, re-costumed by the Dayton Sewing Collaborative, and rebuilt by Scenic Solutions. Watch this video to get a glimpse at what it took to create the new Rike’s Holiday Windows.

Behind The Scenes With Dayton Live: Rike’s Holiday Windows

The holiday season is here and one of Dayton’s most beloved traditions is visiting the Rike’s Holiday Windows. We hope this virtual visit as part of “Behind The Scenes With Dayton Live” brings you joy – especially this year!

Victor’s Holiday Adventure Sweepstakes

Victors Holiday Adventure
Hello there, Dayton! I’m Victor T. Deer and I’ve been a part of the Rike’s Holiday Windows family since I was born! I’ve been growing up, learning my lessons, and getting ready to be in included in one of the Rike’s Holiday Windows. So far I’ve been too small to join in the fun – and that’s been frustrating! And now the pandemic has all my friends and family staying at home this year. But I escaped! I snuck out so I could explore! I roamed all over the Dayton Live campus – including the PNC Arts Annex, The Loft Theatre, the Schuster Center and the Victoria Theatre – and took magic photos of myself in all sorts of cool spots. (I even did a news report for “Behind The Scenes At Dayton Live” – that’s how I finally found my way back where I belong!) Between December 3, and December 29, 2020, check out the photos that I’ll share on Dayton Live’s Facebook and Instagram and you’ll find a letter of the alphabet in each one. Straighten out this word scramble, complete the entry form below, and you’ll be entered to win a gift certificate to daytonlive.org!

One entry per person. We will be randomly selecting a winner from the correct answers at the beginning of January 2021. For complete Victor’s Holiday Adventure Sweepstakes rules, click here.
