Description
This production is great for all families, especially for people with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning or cognitive disabilities. You can expect a reduction of loud or jarring sounds, the absence of flashing or strobe lighting on stage, and a judgment-free environment where all patrons are free to vocalize or move around the theatre. At no time will anyone be asked to leave the performance due to vocal reactions, movement, or behaviors related to cognitive/developmental abilities. Patrons will have access to professionally curated resource materials to use in preparation for your visit like checklists, social narratives, and “Meet Your Seat” videos. Dayton Live also has designated quiet areas in our venues for patrons to use during the performance. Our trained staff and volunteers, as well as our partners at Dayton Children’s, are excited for you and your family to join us at the theatre.
Due to the unique storytelling with light on the stage, the house lights for this sensory-friendly performance will be completely out. Ushers and volunteers will have flashlights to illuminate the walkways when necessary during the performance. If you have questions, please contact the Dayton Live Ticket Office.
We begin with Aesop’s classic fable of Tortoise and Hare but continue the story which finds them 10 years down the road, now with children of their own and exploring modern day distractions. Smart phones and video games create a new landscape of lost connections to life experiences. THE NEXT GEN features Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare in a whole new kind of race, where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together despite their differences to find and save their children. What hurdles will they have to overcome to make it to the finish line? With dazzling visuals, poignant storytelling and the creative use of music from classical to pop, this production brings this tale into a new brilliant light through the artistry of Lightwire Theater.
It is our hope that this production will make attending the theatre an accessible and enjoyable experience for all.
