Dance Icons: Jerome Robbins And Jiří Kylián
Dayton Ballet pays tribute to two dance icons.
The late Jerome Robbins is a world-renowned American choreographer of ballets, as well director and choreographer in theater, movies and television. He earned two Academy Awards for his work set to Leonard Bernstein’s beloved score in the film West Side Story. His choreography is known for its simplicity, yet it is incredibly demanding technically and athletically, and yet again, it is so rewarding to perform. Dayton Ballet performs Jerome Robbins’ playful Interplay.
Internationally acclaimed European choreographer Jiří Kylián has created nearly 100 works that are performed all over the world. In the course of his career, Kylián has created works not only for Nederlands Dans Theater, where he served as Artistic Director for many years, but also for the Stuttgart Ballet, the Paris Opéra Ballet, and Tokyo Ballet. In 2017, he was awarded the prestigious Life Time Achievement Prize, the Positano Premia La Danza Léonide Massine Award, the oldest dance award in the world. He is known worldwide for his creative genius, and he continues to inspire young dancers and choreographers in the world of dance today. Dayton Ballet brings back to the stage Jiří Kylián’s fanciful and comedic Sechs Tänze.
