Works by Price, Mason Bates, and Beethoven.
DPO Concertmaster Jessica Hung is center stage for Woman of Note Florence Price’s Violin Concerto No. 1, reminiscent of both European Romantic composers and Price’s Arkansas roots. Beethoven’s sparkling Symphony No. 8 with its playful “metronome” movement (inspired by the tick-tocking timekeeping device and guaranteed to set your feet a-tapping!) celebrates the composer’s playful side. Plus, plunge into Mason Bates’s multimedia Liquid Interface – a dive into water of many guises – from quicksilvery droplets to the devastating power of hurricanes to glaciers crashing into the warming Antarctic Ocean, complete with ominous electronic sound effects. We welcome guest conductor Carolyn Kuan as she brings these incredible pieces to life with the talented musicians of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
