An Evening for Justice

Feb 29, 2024

Victoria Theatre

$28.50 - $43.50

Description

Join us for this special event celebrating the life and work of the late Judge Michael W. Krumholtz of the Montgomery County Ohio Common Pleas Court and supporting the critical and essential work of the Ohio Innocence Project. The Ohio Innocence Project’s goal is simple: to free every innocent person in Ohio who has been convicted of crime they didn’t commit.

Two prominent presenters – Ms. Amanda Knox and Mr. Gilbert King – will illuminate ongoing injustices within our legal system which continue to result in wrongful convictions and imprisonment.

Amanda Knox made international headlines when, as an American college student, she was wrongfully arrested and convicted in Italy for the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. She spent more than four years in an Italian prison before being exonerated and freed. Her odyssey has been featured in the hit Netflix documentary Amanda Knox. In addition, Hulu is close to greenlighting a limited series about her wrongful conviction and its aftermath. Ms. Knox will discuss her wrongful conviction and “trial by media,” as well as how the media used sex and gender to distort reality and further the injustices in her case.

Gilbert King is the writer, producer, and host of Bone Valley, a multi-part narrative podcast about murder and injustice in 1980s central Florida, from Lava For Good podcasts. He is the author of three books, most recently, Beneath a Ruthless Sun. His previous book, Devil in the Grove was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction in 2013. A New York Times bestseller, the book was also named runner-up for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. King has written about race, civil rights, and the death penalty for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and The Atlantic, and he was a 2019-2020 fellow at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Writers and Scholars at the New York Public Library. King’s earlier book, The Execution of Willie Francis, was published in 2008.
